Objective: Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has previously been shown to be effective in closing diabetic foot wounds that have undergone amputation over a 16-week period. For patients with plantar foot wounds, NPWT is a key therapy. An alternative NPWT with and without a novel soft, flexible port system needs to be evaluated for its comparable efficacy.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accessibility and utility of a common Internet search strategy so physicians might provide this guidance to their patients seeking health information on chronic disease. We selected three common chronic diseases: diabetes, hypertension, and osteoarthritis. We then formulated basic questions from a patient perspective about diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis.

The risk of stroke in patients with asymptomatic carotid disease appears to be related to the presence of a high-grade stenosis. To determine the prevalence of such lesions, duplex scanning was performed on 348 unselected volunteers without symptoms who attended hospital-sponsored health fairs. There were 209 women and 139 men whose ages ranged from 24 to 91 years.
