Hepatic nuclear thyroid hormone receptors from rat, dog, chicken, and rainbow trout were compared. Receptor affinities for 3,5,3'-triiodo-L-thyronine (T3) were similar in preparations from rat, dog, and chicken, using isolated nuclei and nuclear extracts. Rainbow trout nuclear receptor showed a lower affinity for T3.

Competition experiments and biological assays with a panel of 15 monoclonal antibodies confirmed the presence of at least four antigenic sites on the fusion protein of human respiratory syncytial virus, three of which were involved in virus neutralization. One antigenic site, recognized by two strongly neutralizing antibodies, was conserved after reduction and denaturation and shown by immunoblotting to be localized on the F1 fragment of the fusion protein. Cleavage of this protein with staphylococcal protease V8 or papain produced a series of smaller peptides from 11 to 7 kilodaltons that retained this important neutralization determinant.

Anti 5-methyl-cytidine antibodies might be useful agents for the detection and localization of 5-methyl-cytidine of nucleic acids, but only if the antibodies recognize this nucleoside with sufficient specificity. A conjugate containing 18 moles of 5-methyl-cytidine per mole of BSA was prepared and antibodies directed against this nucleoside hapten were produced by immunization of rabbits (as determined by gel diffusion in agar containing excessive amounts of the carrier). A slight crossreaction of cytidine-BSA was eliminated by adsorption on the cross-reacting antigen.

Partially purified IgE receptor(s) of rat basophilic leukemia cells (RBL) designated R and H and having apparent molecular weight of 45,000 and 55,000 daltons, respectively, were subjected to proteolysis with papain. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the digests in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate revealed a difference in the size and number of the fragments produced. These results suggest that these two receptor molecules are different with respect to amino acid composition and sequence.

Two antigenic types of naturally occurring proteins related to the papain produced F(c) fragment of gammaG-globulin have been studied. Most normal and myeloma gammaG-globulins are related to one or the other of these proteins, based on antigenic and structural characteristics of their heavy chain. Molecules bearing the determinant "Cr" are approximately 10 times as abundant as those bearing the determinant termed "Zu" in pools of normal gammaG-globulin and among a large group of gammaG-myeloma globulins.
