Background: Preeclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy-specific, multisystemic disorder that affects 2-8% pregnancies worldwide and is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality. At present, there is no cure for PE apart from delivery the placenta. Therefore, it is important and urgent to possess a suitable animal model to study the pathology and treatment of PE.

Background/aim: Ifosfamide is used clinically with doxorubicin as first-line chemotherapy for soft-tissue sarcoma. However, ifosfamide efficacy for soft-tissue sarcoma is limited due to frequent occurence of ifosfamide resistance and thus more effective therapy is needed. The present study aimed to determine the synergy of recombinant methioninase (rMETase) plus ifosfamide against HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells in vitro.

Background/aim: Organometallic complexes can decrease adhesion, migration, invasion of cancer cells, mainly through regulation of the extracellular matrix and therefore act against metastases. The aim was to investigate the anti-invasive properties of a rhenium-based metal compound, rhenium(I)-diselenoether (Re-diSe) and its effects on matrix metalloproteinase MMP-2, a key player in metastatic processes, in cultured MDA-MB231 triple-negative breast cancer cells.
Materials And Methods: Matrigel was utilized to assess cancer cell adhesion to the extracellular matrix.

Background/aim: Methionine addiction, known as the Hoffman effect, makes cancer cells more sensitive to methionine restriction than normal cells. However, the long-term effects of methionine restriction on cancer and normal cells have not been thoroughly studied.
Materials And Methods: HCT-116 human colorectal-cancer cells and Hs27 normal skin fibroblasts were treated with 0-8 U/ml of recombinant methioninase (rMETase) for 12 days.

Methane- and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria play key roles in the global carbon and nitrogen cycles, respectively. These bacteria use homologous copper membrane monooxygenases to accomplish the defining chemical transformations of their metabolisms: the oxidations of methane to methanol by particulate methane monooxygenase (pMMO) and ammonia to hydroxylamine by ammonia monooxygenase (AMO), enzymes of prime interest for applications in mitigating climate change. However, investigations of these enzymes have been hindered by the need for disruptive detergent solubilization prior to structure determination, confounding studies of pMMO and precluding studies of AMO.
