Oncogenic Functions of Alternatively Spliced Isoform in Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

The James Comprehensive Cancer Center, Department of Surgery, Division of Surgical Oncology, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Columbus, OH 43210, USA.

Retroperitoneal liposarcoma (RPLPS) is one of the most common histologic subtypes of soft tissue sarcoma (STS). Complete surgical resection remains the mainstay treatment, while the high rate of locoregional recurrence constitutes the predominant cause of mortality. Well-differentiated (WDLPS) and dedifferentiated (DDLPS) liposarcoma are the most frequent subtypes of RPLPS and present amplified MDM2 gene as a hallmark.

Objective: Margin distance is a significant prognosticator in oral cavity cancer but its role in HPV-related oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma [HPV(+)OPSCC] remains unclear. Here, we investigate the impact of margin distance on locoregional recurrence in HPV(+)OPSCC.

Study Design: This is a retrospective cohort study of surgically treated HPV(+)OPSCC patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Endoscopic-assisted breast surgery (EABS) offers better cosmetic results for breast cancer patients, but traditional axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) requires larger incisions and more retraction.
  • The proposed single-port three-dimensional endoscopic-assisted ALND (S-P 3D E-ALND) uses a minimally invasive technique with high success rates and improved visualization, analyzed from a study of 11 patients.
  • Preliminary results show 100% success without open surgery conversion, short operative times, minimal blood loss, and no significant complications over a median follow-up of 7 months, suggesting that S-P 3D E-ALND is a viable alternative for ALND.

Suppressing, stimulating and/or inhibiting: The evolving management of HCC patient after liver transplantation.

Crit Rev Oncol Hematol

December 2024

Department of Oncology and Hematology, Oncology Unit, University Hospital of Modena and Reggio Emilia, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena 41124, Italy. Electronic address:

Liver transplantation (LT) is a curative strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), but the risk of HCC recurrence remains a challenging problem. In patients with HCC recurrence after LT (HCC-R_LT), the locoregional and surgical approaches are complex, and the guidelines do not report evidence-based strategies for the management of immunosuppression. In recent years, immunotherapy has become an effective option for patients with advanced HCC in pre-transplant settings.
