Introduction: In a 5-year follow-up study, we investigated the enduring effects of cognitive training on older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Methods: A randomized controlled single-blind trial involved 145 older adults with MCI, assigned to cognitive training (MEMO+), an active control psychosocial intervention, or a no-contact condition. Five-year effects were measured on immediate and delayed memory recall, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment screening test (MoCA), self-reported strategy use, and daily living difficulties.

Amantadine use in the French prospective NS-Park cohort.

J Neural Transm (Vienna)

July 2024

Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Neurosciences, Clinical Investigation Center CIC1436, Toulouse Parkinson Expert Centre, Toulouse NeuroToul Center of Excellence in Neurodegeneration (COEN), University of Toulouse 3, CHU of Toulouse, INSERM, Toulouse, France.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the use of amantadine in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and its effectiveness in treating levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LIDs).
  • It found that 12.6% of PD patients in the French NS-Park cohort were using amantadine, primarily younger patients with more severe symptoms and higher doses of levodopa.
  • The results indicated that starting amantadine led to significant improvements in LIDs and motor fluctuations among new users compared to those who had never used the drug.

Paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepines in the elderly.

Geriatr Psychol Neuropsychiatr Vieil

December 2021

Hôpital des Charpennes, Hospices civils de Lyon, Lyon, France, CNRS UMR 5229, Institut des sciences cognitives Marc-Jeannerod, Team ""Neuroplasticity in Parkinson's disease",France.

The prevalence of paradoxical reactions to benzodiazepines is estimated to be approximately 1% in the general population. The semiology can be very varied, diverse and misleading. Advanced age as well as cognitive disorders are classically described in the literature as risk factors for developing paradoxical reactions.

Measures of resting-state functional connectivity allow the description of neuronal networks in humans and provide a window on brain function in normal and pathological conditions. Characterizing neuronal networks in animals is complementary to studies in humans to understand how evolution has modelled network architecture. The mouse lemur (Microcebus murinus) is one of the smallest and more phylogenetically distant primates as compared to humans.
