Comparing Five Generations of ActiGraph Devices using an Orbital Shaker.

Med Sci Sports Exerc

January 2025

Energy Metabolism Section, National Institute of Diabetes, Digestive and Kidney Diseases, Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity Branch, National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, MD.

Introduction: ActiGraph accelerometers are used extensively to objectively assess physical activity, sedentary behavior, and sleep. Here, we present an objective validation of five generations of ActiGraph sensors to characterize potential differences in output arising from changes to hardware or firmware.

Methods: An orbital shaker generated accelerations from 0 to 3700 milli-g in a randomized order to test the wGT3X-BT, GT9X, CentrePoint Insight Watch (CPIW) 1.

Resource consumption is expected to further increase in the next decades. A circular economy could decrease the environmental impact of this resource consumption by minimizing the primary raw materials consumption and minimizing emissions that render materials inaccessible for further use. However, such a circular economy will still have primary raw material inflows, due to population growth, stock expansion, energy transition, and inevitable dissipation.

Mongolian nomadic herders traditionally pass on ecological knowledge intergenerationally, mainly within families. However, little is known about how current societal transformation processes may impact the application and transfer of traditional ecological knowledge (TEK) amongst herders. Combining quantitative household survey data with qualitative interviews, we show that TEK is still widely applied amongst herders.

Objectives: Lifelong learning facilitates active ageing, and intragenerational learning-the process by which older adults learn from their peers-is an effective means of achieving this goal. The present research aims to elucidate the mechanisms and differences between intergenerational and intragenerational learning models for older adults as evidenced by brain-to-brain synchrony.

Methods: Fifty-six instructor-learner dyads completed a study comparing intergenerational and intragenerational learning models, as well as task difficulty.

Environmental sustainability is vital in developing countries for sustainable economic development, poverty reduction, food security, climate change adaptation, biodiversity conservation, global equity, and access to sustainable energy. In contributing to literature, this study computed composite variables following the unavailability of a unified sustainable development goals (SDGs) database to examine the progress of ten sample developing countries. The authors propose the design of a database that utilizes the specific SDG indicators for empirical research.
