Association between cardiovascular health and osteoporotic fractures: a national population-based study.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Department of Epidemiology and Health Statistics, Xiangya School of Public Health, Central South University, NO. 172 Tong Zi Po Road, Yuelu District, Changsha, 410006, Hunan, China.

Osteoporotic fractures are a major public health concern, particularly among the aging population, as they significantly contribute to morbidity, mortality, and reduced quality of life. While cardiovascular health (CVH) has traditionally been linked to cardiovascular disease outcomes, emerging evidence suggests it may also influence bone health. This study investigates the association between CVH, as measured by the Life's Essential 8 (LE8) score, and the prevalence of osteoporotic fractures in U.

Background: Increasing intentions to quit e-cigarettes among youth and young adults can reduce usage rates by making quit attempts more likely. This study assessed the potential impacts of a national media campaign, focused on building knowledge of e-cigarette use risks and cessation resources, on intentions to quit and campaign-targeted beliefs about mental health and quitting.

Methods: A national sample from a repeated cross-sectional online survey was collected from March 2022 to August 2023, among youth and young adults who reported e-cigarette use in the past 30 days (N=5169).

Electronic address:

Theacrine, a purine alkaloid with pharmacological effects such as calming and anti-depressive activities, is biosynthesized through a key rate-limiting enzyme, caffeine oxidase. Despite its importance, the caffeine oxidase gene (CsCDH) in Camellia sinensis has not been cloned to date. We successfully isolated the full-length CsCDH cDNA, which contains a 501-bp open reading frame (ORF) encoding a 166-amino-acid protein with a calculated molecular weight of 18.

This study aimed to establish the optimal cut-off values for urinary cotinine and 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanol (NNAL)to determine smoking status in Korean women over 20 years of age and to assess the correlation of these biomarkers with reproductive health, particularly menopausal age, in postmenopausal women. Utilizing data from the 7th edition of the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (2016- 2018), researchers included postmenopausal women aged 40-60 years who were within 5 years of menopause. Self-reported smoking status was aligned with biomarkers levels to calculate optimal cut-off values, classifying a total of 503 postmenopausal women into four groups: never smokers (cotinine <0.
