Intense inflammatory responses and elevated levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) extremely exacerbate the pathological process of spinal cord injury (SCI). Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived extracellular vesicles (EV) can mitigate SCI-related inflammation but their production yield remains limited. Alternatively, MSC-extruded nanovesicles (NV) inherit the therapeutic potential from MSCs and have a markedly higher yield than EV.

The rare metal element molybdenum functions as a cofactor in molybdoenzymes that are essential to life in almost all living things. Molybdate can be captured by the periplasmic substrate-binding protein ModA of ModABC transport system in bacteria. We demonstrate that ModA plays crucial roles in growth, multiple metabolic pathways, and ROS tolerance in .

Polymer-based photosensitizers have found various applications in photodynamic therapy (PDT). However, the absence of targeting ability commonly results in a substantial reduction in photosensitizer accumulation at the tumor site, significantly limiting the therapeutic efficacy of the system. In addition, the development of biodegradable polymeric photosensitizers is of critical importance for biological applications.

Constipation is correlated with diminished cognitive function, revealing a possible rectum-brain connection. In this counter-balanced crossover trial, 13 elite triathletes underwent a Stroop test to assess cognitive function and executive control. The Stroop test was conducted both with and without magnesium oxide intake, with a 1-week washout period between sessions.

An increase in plastic waste and its release into the environment has led to health concerns over microplastics (MPs) in the environment. The intestinal mucosal layer is a key defense mechanism against ingested MPs, preventing the migration of particles to other parts of the body. MP migration through intestinal mucus is challenging to study due to difficulties in obtaining intact mucus layers for testing and numerous formulations, shapes, and sizes of microplastics.
