Injury to the lacrimal drainage system with resultant epiphora is a complication of functional endoscopic sinus surgery. A study of 24 patients was conducted to determine the incidence and significance of lacrimal drainage system injuries during functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Intraoperative testing demonstrated seven occult injuries (15%) in 46 endoscopic procedures. Postoperative testing demonstrated diversion of lacrimal drainage into the middle meatus in two patients and spontaneous healing of the injured lacrimal drainage system with restoration of normal drainage in three of the patients available for follow-up testing. In no patient did epiphora develop. It is concluded that the nasolacrimal drainage system is in close proximity to the dissection cavity during functional endoscopic sinus surgery and, hence, is at risk for inadvertent injury. Occult damage to the nasolacrimal drainage system would appear to be a common event during functional endoscopic sinus surgery; however, the complication of postoperative epiphora is rare.

Although significant governmental investment has been provided to implement agricultural conservation practices (ACPs) for water quality improvement, eutrophication and hypoxia persist in coastal and fresh waters. A better understanding of the comparative effectiveness of ACPs is needed to improve environmental outcomes with the funding available. The objectives of this overview article are to (1) compare the performance and cost effectiveness among all the ACPs reviewed in both the first and second editions of the Special Collection and (2) present critical perspectives for researchers, policymakers, and funding entities seeking to improve water quality.

Introduction: There is a risk of iatrogenic vascular injuries during robotic-assisted laparoscopic excision of diaphragmatic endometriosis. Although studies are limited, the first reported case of a suprahepatic inferior vena cava (IVC) injury during robotic diaphragmatic endometriosis excision was successfully treated using a fibrin sealant patch, preventing exsanguination and conversion to laparotomy.
Case Description: A 36-year-old female with a history of recurrent catamenial pneumothorax and two prior video-assisted thoracoscopic surgeries to treat diaphragmatic endometriosis presented to our clinic with right-sided shoulder pain and a chest tube in place.

Despite increasing awareness of the threats they pose, exotic species continue to arrive in Antarctica with anthropogenic assistance, some of which inevitably have the potential to become aggressively invasive. Here, we provide the first report of the globally cosmopolitan species (Diptera, Psychodidae; commonly known as moth flies) in Antarctica during the austral summer of 2021/2022, with the identification confirmed using traditional taxonomic and molecular approaches. The species was present in very large numbers and, although predominantly associated with the drainage and wastewater systems of Antarctic national operator stations in synanthropic situations, it was also present in surrounding natural habitats.
