Fifteen patients with diplopia associated with prior scleral buckling, prior penetrating keratoplasty, severe corneal scarring, monocular aphakia, long-standing strabismus, or prior vertical offsets of the horizontal recti were thought to have disruption of fusion because diplopia could not be eliminated with prisms. They were each found to have a substantial symptomatic cyclotropia unassociated with an obvious dysfunction of an oblique muscle. In 13 patients, diplopia resolved after the cyclotropia was corrected surgically.

Resolving the molecular basis of a Mendelian condition remains challenging owing to the diverse mechanisms by which genetic variants cause disease. To address this, we developed a synchronized long-read genome, methylome, epigenome and transcriptome sequencing approach, which enables accurate single-nucleotide, insertion-deletion and structural variant calling and diploid de novo genome assembly. This permits the simultaneous elucidation of haplotype-resolved CpG methylation, chromatin accessibility and full-length transcript information in a single long-read sequencing run.

Background: Fusion changes the biomechanics of the spine leading to the potential development of adjacent segment disease. Despite many studies on adjacent segment disease, it is largely unknown how spinal fixation affects the mechanical properties of the adjacent disc. Dissipative environments are ubiquitous in nature, from microscopic swimmers in low-Reynolds-number fluids to macroscopic animals in frictional media. In this study, we consider a mathematical model of a slender elastic locomotor with an internal rhythmic neural pattern generator to examine various undulatory locomotion such as swimming and crawling behaviours. By using local mechanical load as mechanosensory feedback, we have found that undulatory locomotion robustly emerges in different rheological media.

Background: Radix Bupleuri (RB) and acetaminophen (APAP) are two popular medications having potential hepatotoxicity and substantial risks of irrational co-administration and excessive use, posing an overlooked danger of drug-induced liver injury (DILI). Autophagy is a protective mechanism against APAP-induced DILI, yet, saikosaponin d (SSd) in RB has been characterized to regulate autophagy, although the current findings are controversial.
Purpose: We aim to elucidate whether SSd promoted APAP-induced liver injury by regulating autophagy.
