IgA nephropathy (IgAN), the most prevalent primary glomerulonephritis worldwide, carries a considerable lifetime risk of kidney failure. The etiology of IgAN, however, remains incompletely understood, and effective treatment is lacking. Although the multihit model effectively identifies key steps in IgAN development and, to date, provides the best description of IgAN pathogenesis, it remains under development to fully capture the complexity of immune system dysregulation.

Introduction: Carbohydrate metabolism can change in hospitalized patients due to stress, or the use of enteral nutrition (EN). The aim of this study was to determine the risk factors triggering these changes.
Material And Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study in non-diabetic patients with low levels of stress on EN.

d-Lactic acidosis is an uncommon cause of acidosis that occurs in patients with short bowel syndrome (SBS). Reduced intestinal absorption surface leads to carbohydrate malabsorption, fermented by abnormal colonic bacterial flora, resulting in elevated d-lactate levels. It should be suspected in SBS patients who exhibit typical neurological symptoms without other apparent causes, along with metabolic acidosis with normal l-lactate levels.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the mechanism of antimicrobial action of Lysine (Lys) against Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7. Lys alters the permeability and morphology of bacterial cell membranes, leading to leakage of intracellular material.

Consumers increasingly seek more complex and tropical flavors in their alcoholic beverages. In beer and wine, yeast can release glutathione and cysteine-bound thiols from hops and grapes enhancing their tropical and fruity aromas. This study aimed to enhance cider aroma by combining yeast strains, hop and apple varieties.
