Objectives: Sickle cell disease (SCD), which disproportionately affects minorities, increases complications during pregnancy. Severe maternal mortality is increased in women with SCD, including morbidity related to the disease and other nondisease-related complications. It also can have devastating complications for fetuses, with increases in premature birth and low birth weight.

Pulmonary hypertensive changes are commonly seen by the surgical pathologist, but the majority represents secondary changes due to some process extrinsic to the lung. Some primary, or idiopathic, vascular diseases result in unique pathologic changes including the plexiform lesion and venous hypertensive changes. Thromboembolic disease also shows unique pathologic features.

Background: Cesarean hysterectomy in the placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) remains challenging due to difficulty in controlling perioperative bleeding.
Purpose: To compare the effectiveness and safety of perioperative balloon occlusion with versus without pelvic artery embolization in PAS women who underwent a cesarean hysterectomy.
Material And Methods: A total of 26 pathological confirmed cases of PAS were retrospectively reviewed and categorized into two groups: perioperative balloon occlusion at either the anterior division of the internal iliac artery or uterine artery followed by gelfoam embolization (n = 12, study group) and perioperative balloon occlusion alone (n = 14, control group).

Background: Patients who underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) are considered at high risk for pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission. Therefore, this study aimed to assess outcomes and mortality-related risk factors among pediatric HSCT recipients admitted to the PICU.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study was conducted at a Saudi Arabian tertiary care center and involved pediatric patients (aged 4 weeks to 14 years) who underwent HSCTs between January 2015 and December 2019 and were admitted to the PICU.
