Rewriting the Quantum "Revolution".

Stud Hist Philos Sci

December 2024

Freudental Institute, Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, Utrecht University, The Netherlands. Electronic address:

This paper is a critical analysis of the structure of the quantum revolution. I consider the factual question of how, historically and theoretically, the classical gave way to the quantum, and I argue for an answer that shows, contra Thomas Kuhn's influential philosophy of science, that it is the logic, and not the sociology and psychology, of research that correctly explains the classical-to-the-quantum paradigm shift. My approach is based not on archival studies but on a careful reading, in their original historical context, of Max Planck's and Albert Einstein's well-known papers; the burden of my argument, which at points will be outspoken, consists, then, in identifying and removing the impediments that prevent us from reading these papers in themselves.

Spinal cord injuries (SCI) are devastating conditions which often cause multiple permanent physical impairments and psychosocial complications. Discharge from hospital is often delayed and precious health resources are consumed. In Hong Kong SAR, China, the government welfare system and the public hospital system have worked together to address these problems through partnership with non-governmental organizations.

Université Paris Cité, Institut Cochin, CNRS, INSERM, Paris, France; Assistance Publique Hôpitaux de Paris, Université Paris Cité, Service d'Endocrinologie, Gynécologie et Diabétologie Pédiatrique, Necker Hospital, Paris, France.

The natural history of type 1 diabetes (T1D) evolves from stage 1 (islet autoimmunity with normoglycemia; ICD-10 diagnostic code E10.A1) to stage 2 (autoimmunity with dysglycemia; E10.A2) and subsequent clinical stage 3 (overt hyperglycemia), which is commonly the first time of referral.

1+1<2: Combined effect of low temperature stress and salt stress on Sesuvium portulacastrum L.

Plant Physiol Biochem

December 2024

School of Materials Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing, 100084, China; Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Tsinghua University, Shenzhen, 518055, China. Electronic address:

To expedite the deployment of Sesuvium portulacastrum floating bed technology in Hangzhou Bay and the Yangtze River Estuary, and to overcome the cryogenic constraint, our study concentrated on investigating the impacts of both individual and combined stress factors, particularly low temperature and salinity, on its application. We detected the S. portulacastrum related enzyme activity and other biological macromolecules under low temperature stress, salt stress and combined stress.

ORP5 promotes cardiac hypertrophy by regulating the activation of mTORC1 on lysosome.

J Adv Res

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Shanghai Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, China; State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Diseases, Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, China; NHC Key Laboratory of Ischemic Heart Diseases, China; Key Laboratory of Viral Heart Diseases, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, China; National Clinical Research Center for Interventional Medicine, Shanghai, China; Institutes of Biomedical Sciences, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: Oxysterol binding protein (OSBP)-related protein 5 (ORP5) mainly functions as a lipid transfer protein at membrane contact sites (MCS). ORP5 facilitates cell proliferation through the activation of mTORC1 signaling. While the pro-hypertrophic effects of mTORC1 are well-documented, the specific role of ORP5 in the context of pathological cardiac hypertrophy remains inadequately understood.
