Blood sampling and analysis are essential procedures for assessing the health status of exotic pets. While careful manual restraint is generally recommended, sedation may be necessary in specific cases. However, the use of chemical restraint may introduce analytical variations.

Objective: This study aims to investigate changes in matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase (TIMP) levels in the intervertebral discs of New Zealand white rabbits under simulated overload and microgravity conditions, focusing on the expression of MMP1, MMP3, and TIMP1. The findings aim to provide a theoretical foundation for preventing and delaying lumbar disc degeneration in these environments.
Methods: Overload was simulated using an animal centrifuge, and microgravity was mimicked through tail suspension.

The disuse of skeletal limb muscles occurs in a variety of conditions, yet our comprehension of the molecular mechanisms involved in adaptation to disuse remains incomplete. We studied the mechanical characteristics of actin-myosin interaction using an in vitro motility assay and isoform composition of myosin heavy and light chains by dint of SDS-PAGE in soleus muscle of both control and hindlimb-unloaded rats. 14 days of hindlimb unloading led to the increased maximum sliding velocity of actin, reconstituted, and native thin filaments over rat soleus muscle myosin by 24 %, 19 %, and 20 %, respectively.

Background: The exploitations of non-conventional feeds for livestock have sparked great interest due to human-animal competition for conventional feedstuffs. The majority of animal feedstuffs are formulated with grains as the major ingredient, resulting in tautness and an increase in the costs of conventional feeds. This practice has underscored the necessity for an alternatively cheap and sustainable non-conventional feedstuff to salvage the feeding restraint to animal production.

We reviewed fMRI experiments from our previous work in conscious rabbits, an experimental preparation that is advantageous for measuring brain activation that is free of anesthetic modulation and which can address questions in a variety of areas in sensory, cognitive, and pharmacological neuroscience research. Rabbits do not struggle or move for several hours while sitting with their heads restrained inside the horizontal bore of a magnet. This greatly reduces movement artifacts in magnetic resonance (MR) images in comparison to other experimental animals such as rodents, cats, and monkeys.
