Portable paper-based microfluidic devices based on CuS@AgS nanocomposites for colorimetric/electrochemical dual-mode detection of dopamine.

Biosens Bioelectron

January 2025

Centre for Advanced Optoelectronic Functional Materials Research and Key Laboratory of UV Light-Emitting Materials and Technology of Ministry of Education, Northeast Normal University, 130024, Changchun, China. Electronic address:

The development of integrated multiple signal outputs within a single platform is highly significant for efficient and accurate on-site biomarker detection. Herein, colorimetric/electrochemical dual-mode microfluidic paper-based analytical devices (μPADs) were designed for portable, visual and accurate dopamine (DA) detection. The dual-mode μPADs, featuring folded structure, integrate a colorimetric layer and an electrochemical layer using wax printing and laser-induced graphene (LIG) pyrolysis techniques, allowing the vertical flow of analyte solution.

Promoting SO and OH Generation from Sulfate Solution toward Efficient Electrochemical Oxidation of Organic Contaminants at a B/N-Doped Diamond Flow-Through Electrode.

Environ Sci Technol

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Industrial Ecology and Environmental Engineering (Ministry of Education, China), School of Environmental Science and Technology, Dalian University of Technology, Dalian 116024, China.

Electrochemical oxidation via in situ-generated reactive oxygen species (ROS) is effective for the mineralization of refractory organic pollutants. However, the oxidation performance is usually limited by the low yield and utilization efficiency of ROS. Herein, a B/N-doped diamond (BND) flow-through electrode with enhanced SO/OH generation and utilization was designed for electrochemical oxidation of organic pollutants in sulfate solution.

The Science of Nanostructure Acoustic Vibrations.

Annu Rev Phys Chem

January 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, Indiana, USA;

Ultrafast excitation of nanoparticles can excite the acoustic vibrational modes of the structure that correlate with the expansion coordinates. These modes are frequently seen in transient absorption experiments on metal nanoparticle samples and occasionally for semiconductors. The aim of this review is to give an overview of the physical chemistry of nanostructure acoustic vibrations.

Background: Francisella tularensis is an aerobic, gram negative coccobacillus bacterium that causes tularemia. F. tularensis spreads primarily through ticks, biting flies, droplet inhalation, contaminated mud or water, or infected animal bites, and it can survive in animal carcasses with the most common mode of transmission occurring via inoculation into the skin and inhalation/ingestion.

For optimizing production yield while limiting negative environmental impact, sustainable agriculture benefits from real-time, on-the-spot chemical analysis of soil at low cost. Colorimetric paper sensors are ideal candidates, however, their automated readout and analysis in the field is needed. Using mobile technology for paper sensor readout could, in principle, enable the application of machine-learning models for transforming colorimetric data into threshold-based classes that represent chemical concentration.
