Neurolisteriosis, a common disease of small ruminants, is most often caused by . Here we describe 25 cases of caprine neurolisteriosis diagnosed in our laboratory over a 5-y period and compare our fluorescent antibody test (FAT) results with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing for diagnostic confirmation. Neurohistologic changes consistent with neurolisteriosis affected the pons in all cases, extending rostrally to the mesencephalon in 6 cases, caudally to the medulla oblongata in 6 cases, and/or dorsally to the cerebellum in 4 cases.

Background: Mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic abnormalities are acknowledged as significant factors in the onset of neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our research has demonstrated that the use of combined metabolic activators (CMA) may alleviate metabolic dysfunctions and stimulate mitochondrial metabolism. Therefore, the use of CMA could potentially be an effective therapeutic strategy to slow down or halt the progression of PD and AD.

Early life stress has a significant impact on development of the central nervous system (CNS), with lasting rather than transient consequences; therefore, it is important to alleviate these effects. In recent years, functional communication between the CNS and gut microbiota through the so-called brain-gut-microbiota axis has been examined, and it is likely that prebiotics contribute to development of the CNS through the gut microbiota. In this study, we performed behavioral, neurohistological, and fecal microbiota analyses in early-weaned mice to examine the effects of 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL), a human milk oligosaccharide, on anxiety induced by early life stress.

Several studies conducted on chicken have shown that a single stress exposure may impair or improve memory as well as learning processes. However, to date, stress effects on neuronal morphology are poorly investigated wherefore it was of interest to evaluate this further in chicks. Thus, the present study aims to investigate the role of single acute stress (AS) of 24 h food and water deprivation in neuronal plasticity in terms of spine density of the corticoid complex (CC) in 15-day-old chick, Gallus domesticus, by using three neurohistological techniques: Cresyl Violet, Golgi Colonnier, and Golgi Cox technique.
