Permissive strategies in the intensive care unit (PSICU) intentionally allow certain physiological parameters to deviate from traditionally strict control limits to mitigate the risks associated with overly aggressive interventions. These strategies have emerged in response to evidence that rigid adherence to normal physiological ranges may cause harm to critically ill patients, leading to iatrogenic complications or exacerbation of underlying conditions. This review discusses several permissive strategies, including those related to hypotension, hypercapnia, hypoxemia, and lower urinary output thresholds.

Bone Health ECHO (Extension of Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a virtual community of practice that has been connecting healthcare professionals online once weekly for the past 10 years. Objectives: Both serum creatinine and cystatin C serve as dependable markers of renal function and have demonstrated a correlation with clinical outcomes in diverse conditions, particularly through the ratio of creatinine to cystatin C (Cr/CysC). Anuric patients undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) depend entirely on the clearance of peritoneal solutes. This research posits that the Cr/CysC ratio may predict all-cause mortality and technique failure in anuric PD patients.

Background: Snake bite is a well-known occupational hazard amongst farmers, plantation workers, and other outdoor workers and results in much morbidity and mortality throughout the world. The complications related to kidneys are observed in most patients with snake bites admitted to a hospital.
