Examination of patients, that included investigation of the clinical, endoscopic and laboratory parameters over time formed the basis for estimating bronchial inflammation. As many as 164 children with recurrent and chronic bronchopulmonary diseases were examined. The authors provide the informative signs allowing one to judge the activity of bronchial inflammation with a high accuracy (up to 90-95%). The complex signs that characterize bronchial inflammation, grades I, II and III, are also provided. The all-round estimation of the inflammatory activity makes it possible to objectively differentiate the status of local homeostasis, which is of paramount importance for administration of adequate and effective therapy.

A hypertonic solution of Ibuprofen (Ibu) was designed to nebulize, associating a low concentration of Ibu with L-Arginine (AR), to increase solubility and serve as a nitric oxide donor. To provide preclinical research human bronchial epithelial cells derived from a cystic fibrosis patient homozygous for the ΔF508 CFTR mutation (CFBE41o-) and mouse RAW 264.7 macrophages were pre-treated with Ibu (10-100 μM), AR (20 and 200 μM), or the combination Ibu-AR (10-100 μM).

Little is known about how exclusive e-cigarette use affects exosomal microRNA (miRNA) expression, which is crucial in inflammation and disease processes like cancer. We compared exosomal miRNA profiles between exclusive e-cigarette users and non-users. We used plasma samples from 15 exclusive e-cigarette users and 15 non-users from the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Wave 1 study (2013-2014) and sequenced miRNAs with Illumina NextSeq 500/550.

Background: Lungs of people with Cystic Fibrosis (pwCF) are characterized by chronic inflammation and infection with P. aeruginosa. High levels of IL-17 A and F have been observed in sputum of pwCF and the interleukin-17(IL-17) family (A-to-F) has been suggested to play a key role in CF pulmonary disease.

Secondhand vape exposure regulation of CFTR and immune function in cystic fibrosis.

Secondhand smoke exposure (SHSe) is a public health threat for people with cystic fibrosis (CF) and other lung diseases. Primary smoking reduces CFTR channel function, the causative defect in CF. We reported that SHSe worsens respiratory and nutritional outcomes in CF by disrupting immune responses and metabolic signaling.
