Effects of pethoxamid treatment on the disposition of thyroxine in rats.

Toxicol Appl Pharmacol

June 2024

FMC Corporation, 2929 Walnut St, Philadelphia, PA, USA. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - Pethoxamid (PXA) is a chloroacetamide herbicide that inhibits weed germination and has been found to cause thyroid follicular cell hyperplasia in high-dose male rats, but does not act as a genotoxic agent.
  • - A study assessed the effects of PXA on the disposition of intravenously administered radioactive thyroxine in bile-duct cannulated rats, compared with a positive control (phenobarbital), showing increased liver weights and altered thyroid hormone clearance.
  • - The findings suggest PXA affects thyroid hormone balance through increased T4 elimination in bile due to enzyme induction mechanisms, but these effects are likely not relevant to humans due to species-specific differences in thyroid hormone metabolism.

Today, agriculture around the world is challenged by parasitic nematode infections. Plant-parasitic nematodes (PPNs) can cause significant damage and crop loss and are a threat to food security. For a long time, the management of PPN infection has relied on nematicides that impact not only parasitic nematodes but also other organisms.

Objectives: Acetaminophen (APAP) (paracetamol) is a widely used non-prescription drug for pain relief and antipyretic effects. The clearance of APAP is mainly through phase-2 biotransformation catalysed by UDP-glucuronosyl transferases (UGT). Dasabuvir is an anti-hepatitis C drug reported to inhibit several UGT isoforms.

Quercetin is a flavonoid that is widely present in plant-derived food. Quercetin-3-O-β-D-glucoside (Q3GA) is a predominant metabolite of quercetin in animal and human plasma. The inhibitory effects of the UDP-glucuronosyl transferases (UGTs) caused by herbal components may be a key factor for the clinical assessment of herb-drug interactions (HDIs).

Dose- and time-effects responses of Nonylphenol on oxidative stress in rat through the Keap1-Nrf2 signaling pathway.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

April 2021

The Key Laboratory of Food Quality and Safety of Guangdong Province, College of Food Science, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou 510642, China. Electronic address:

Nonylphenol (NP) is a representative environmental endocrine-disrupting compound that can induce oxidative stress in organisms. The Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1 (Keap1)-nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway acts an important role in preventing oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of oxidative stress caused by NP on Keap1-Nrf2 pathway in rats.
