Background: The study aims to investigate the demographic characteristics, the variations in their immune status, and mortality risk among HIV-1 infection long-term non-progressors (LTNP).
Methods: Eligible LTNP and typical progressors (TP) were recruited in Guangxi by December 2018. Participants were followed up until December 2022, monitoring ART status, CD4 T cell counts, and survival/death outcomes.

Historians have written copiously about the shift to 'germ theories' of disease around the turn of the twentieth century, but in these accounts an entire continent has been left out: Antarctica. This article begins to rebalance our historiography by bringing cold climates back into the story of environmental medicine and germ theory. It suggests three periods of Antarctic (human) microbial research - heroic sampling, systematic studies, and viral space analogue - and examines underlying ideas about 'purity' and infection, the realities of fieldwork, and the use of models in biomedicine.

Human enteric viruses can remain infective in surface waters for extended periods of time, posing a public health risk. Microbial activity contributes to the inactivation of waterborne enteric viruses, but while individual bacteria-virus interactions have been characterized, the importance of microbial diversity remains unknown. Here, we experimentally manipulated the diversity of bacterial communities from Lake Geneva across three seasons using a dilution-to-extinction approach and monitored the inactivation and genome decay of echovirus 11, a member of the genus.

The marine isolate, strain R-35, was isolated from marine sediments collected from the Glencairn Tidal Pool, Table Mountain National Park, Cape Town, South Africa. The genomic DNA was sequenced using the Ion Torrent GeneStudio™ S5 platform, and the assembly was performed using the SPAdes assembler on the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC) Lengau Cluster located at the CSIR, Rosebank, South Africa. The draft genome assembly consisted of 722 contigs totaling 7,625,174 base pairs and a G+C% content of 72.
