Primary Ewing's sarcoma of the skull: follow-up with bone scanning.

Neurosurg Rev

Department of Neurosurgery, Vakif Gureba Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey.

Published: November 1992

The authors report and discuss an extremely rare case of primary Ewing's sarcoma originating in the flat bones of the skull. The case was followed up by serial bone scanning during the postoperative period. A subclinical recurrence was detected as a focus at the original site 2.5 years after the first operation. Following a second operation and adjuvant chemotherapy the patient is still asymptomatic.

Vitamin D-VDR and vitamin A-RAR affect IL-13 and IFNγ secretion from human CD4 T cells directly and indirectly via competition for their shared co-receptor RXR.

Scand J Immunol

LEO Foundation Skin Immunology Research Center, Department of Immunology and Microbiology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen, Denmark.

The effects of vitamin D and vitamin A in immune cells are mediated through the vitamin D receptor (VDR) and retinoic acid receptor (RAR), respectively. These receptors share the retinoid X receptor (RXR) co-factor for transcriptional regulation. We investigated the effects of active vitamin D (1,25(OH)D) and 9-cis retinoic acid (9cRA) on T helper (T)1 and T2 cytokines and transcription factors in primary human blood-derived CD4 T cells.

The sacrum can harbor a diverse group of both benign and malignant tumors, including metastases. Primary tumors of the sacrum can arise from bone, cartilage, marrow, notochordal remnants, or surrounding nerves and vessels. Among a variety of primary tumors of the spine, chordoma, germ cell tumors and Ewing's sarcoma are recognized for their propensity to occur in the sacrum.

Background Context: There are a number of risk factors- from biological, psychological, and social domains- for non-specific chronic low back pain (cLBP). Many cLBP treatments target risk factors on the assumption that the targeted factor is not just associated with cLBP but is also a cause (i.e, a causal risk factor).
