Objective: Sheehan syndrome (SS), or postpartum pituitary necrosis, occurs due to reduced vascular supply to pituitary gland after postpartum hemorrhage, often linked to coagulation abnormalities, and pituitary antibodies. A smaller sella turcica volume is a risk factor for SS, consequent to compressive effects on the pituitary stalk. Hypopituitarism in SS increases the risk of metabolic liver and bone diseases.

The somatostatin (SST) receptor family controls pituitary hormone secretion, but the distribution and specific roles of these receptors on the excitability and voltage-gated calcium signaling of hormone producing pituitary cells have not been fully characterized. Here we show that the rat pituitary gland expressed Sstr1, Sstr2, Sstr3, and Sstr5 receptor genes in a cell type-specific manner: Sstr1 and Sstr2 in thyrotrophs, Sstr3 in gonadotrophs and lactotrophs, Sstr2, Sstr3, and Sstr5 in somatotrophs, and none in corticotrophs and melanotrophs. Most gonadotrophs and thyrotrophs spontaneously fired high-amplitude single action potentials, which were silenced by SST without affecting intracellular calcium concentrations.

Introduction: Advances in endoscopic endonasal transsphenoidal surgery have led to improved postoperative outcomes after pituitary adenoma resection, including reduced length of stay, complications and readmission rates, without compromising safety and satisfaction.
Methods: Our team implemented a perioperative protocol in January 2021 for patients undergoing endoscopic, transsphenoidal pituitary surgery. This study compares preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes in 279 patients between 2016 and 2022 (128 preprotocol and 151 postprotocol).

Objective: There has been some confusion in earlier research on the connection between thyroid function and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). This research is aimed to probe into the correlation between thyroid condition and the risk of PCOS from a new standpoint of thyroid hormone sensitivity.
Methods: This research comprised 415 females with PCOS from Drum Tower Hospital Affiliated with the Medical School of Nanjing University, and 137 non-PCOS individuals were selected as the normal control.

Context: Functioning pituitary adenomas (FPAs) include most frequently prolactinomas, somatotroph or corticotroph adenomas, while thyrotroph and gonadotroph adenomas are very rare. Despite their benign histological nature (aggressive tumors are rare and malignant ones exceptional), FPAs could cause significant morbidity and increased mortality due to complications associated with hormonal excess syndromes and/or mass effect leading to compression of adjacent structures. This mini review will focus on the increasing role of medical therapy in the multimodal treatment, which also includes transsphenoidal surgery (TSS) and radiotherapy.
