The method of magnetically abrasive working was first tried in medical industry as a finishing operation for the sharpening and removing of burrs from half-finished blades manufactured by means of vibration forging. The use of the sets for MAO-M-473 and EU-5 makes it possible to manufacture blades with the cutting edge less than or equal to 3 microns in width. The use of magnetically abrasive sharpening enables one to eliminate electrochemical polishing; excludes the appearance of superficial defects on the worked surface; raises corrosion stability and cyclic longevity of the articles.

Size-fractionated carbonaceous and iron-rich particulate matter in urban environments of France and Senegal.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

January 2025

Instituto de Astronomia, Geofísica e Ciências Atmosféricas, Universidade de São Paulo, USP, São Paulo, Brazil.

Road traffic is one of the main sources of particulate matter in the urban environment, emitting particulate organic and elemental carbon compounds and metal-rich particles through combustion and brakes and tires wear. In Western Africa, the carbon and metal composition of airborne particles is also influenced by additional sources linked to biomass combustion and recent industrialization. Here, we investigated the impact of combustion-related and non-combustion-related emissions on the distribution of carbonaceous fractions and iron-rich particles in two urban environments in France and Senegal.

Study on Intelligent Bionic Superhydrophobic Material and its Oil-Water Separation Mechanism.

Chemistry

January 2025

Faculty of Environmental Science and Engineering, Kunming University of Science and Technology, Yunnan, Kunming, 650500, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • Marine oil spills and improper oil disposal pose serious threats to ecosystems and human health due to industrial growth.
  • Researchers developed a new eco-friendly, superhydrophobic material called FeO@SiO@PMMA that effectively collects and removes oil from water, showcasing optimal performance with specific particle sizes and heating conditions.
  • The material demonstrated impressive separation efficiency (over 99.78% for oil-water mixtures and 90.58% in real wastewater tests), along with excellent durability under extreme conditions, making it a promising solution for managing oil pollution.

This paper presents a new method of eccentric magnetic-abrasive finishing as applied to 316 stainless steel. The proposed solution is based on solid ferromagnetic abrasive grains (Fe-Si) held by an external magnetic field. A workpiece fixed in a holder with a certain eccentricity is inserted between the grains and the holder is rotated.

Flexible nanofiber sensors have gained substantial attention in extending application scenarios owing to their desirable lightweight, comfort, and breathability. Nevertheless, disorder and uneven dimension issues of nanofibers are the leading concerns in their multifunctional response, which often leads to erratic response signals as well as poor linearity. In this work, a high-performance oriented nanofiber film with a three-dimensional network consisting of alginate sodium, poly(vinyl alcohol), and poly(ethylene oxide) was successfully fabricated by a controllable directional electrospinning technique.
