Background: Continuous fermentation offers advantages in improving production efficiency and reducing costs, making it highly competitive for industrial ethanol production. A key requirement for Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains used in this process is their tolerance to high ethanol concentrations, which enables them to adapt to continuous fermentation conditions. To explore how yeast cells respond to varying levels of ethanol stress during fermentation, a two-month continuous fermentation was conducted.

Comprehensive analysis of the succinylome in Vero cells infected with peste des petits ruminants virus Nigeria 75/1 vaccine strain.

BMC Vet Res

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Xujiaping 1, Yanchangpu, Chengguan District, Lanzhou, 730046, Gansu, China.

Background: Peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) is currently the only member of the Morbillivirus caprinae species within the genus Morbillivirus of the family Paramyoxviridae. PPRV causes a highly contagious disease in small ruminants, especially goats and sheep. Succinylation is a newly identified and conserved modification and plays an important role in host cell response to pathogen infection.

NTHi killing activity is reduced in COPD patients and is associated with a differential microbiome.

Respir Res

Microbial Antibodies and Technologies, Research and Early Development, Vaccines and Immune Therapies, BioPharmaceuticals R&D, AstraZeneca, Gaithersburg, MD, USA.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic lung disease characterized by airway obstruction and inflammation. Non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) lung infections are common in COPD, promoting frequent exacerbations and accelerated lung function decline. The relationship with immune responses and NTHi are poorly understood.

Severe pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic uremia syndrome in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic: a novel survival case report.

BMC Pregnancy Childbirth

January 2025

Department of Intensive Care Medicine, Army Medical Center of PLA, No. 10 Changjiang Road, Yuzhong District, Chongqing, 400010, People's Republic of China.

Background: Pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a form of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) caused by uncontrolled activation of the complement system during pregnancy or the postpartum period. In the intensive care unit, aHUS must be differentiated from sepsis-related multiple organ dysfunction, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet (HELLP) syndrome. Early recognition of aHUS is critical for effective treatment and improved prognosis.

SLC29A1 and SLC29A2 are human nicotinamide cell membrane transporters.

Nat Commun

January 2025

College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, National Key Laboratory of Advanced Drug Delivery and Release Systems, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China.

Nicotinamide (NAM), a main precursor of NAD+, is essential for cellular fuel respiration, energy production, and other cellular processes. Transporters for other precursors of NAD+ such as nicotinic acid and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) have been identified, but the cellular transporter of nicotinamide has not been elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that equilibrative nucleoside transporter 1 and 2 (ENT1 and 2, encoded by SLC29A1 and 2) drive cellular nicotinamide uptake and establish nicotinamide metabolism homeostasis.
