Polar biaxial crystals with extreme anisotropy hold promise for the spatial control and the manipulation of polaritons, as they can undergo topological transitions. However, taking advantage of these unique properties for nanophotonic devices requires to find mechanisms to modulate dynamically the material response. Here, we present a study on the propagation of surface phonon polaritons (SPhPs) in a photonic architecture based on a thin layer of α-MoO deposited on a semiconducting 4H-SiC substrate, whose carrier density can be tuned through photoinduction.

As crucial transportation hubs for urban travel, metro stations catalyze the transformation of their surrounding areas into highly prominent locations where many activities converge. Uncovering the functional attributes of station areas holds immense significance in comprehending citizens' activity demands, thereby offering valuable insights for regional development and planning in proximity to metro stations. This study introduces a framework that improves the process of accurately representing station areas.

Beach groundwater and nearshore hydrodynamic data were collected during a field experiment along two dissipative beach transects on Galveston Island, Texas, in the fall of 2023. The monitored beaches serve as nesting habitat for the critically endangered Kemp's ridley sea turtle. Conditions ranged from calm to stormy, with two storms occurring during the experiment, inundating the entire beach up to the dune toe.

Malignant tumorigenesis is a complex process involving growth, invasion and mechanical deformation of a cancerous tissue. In this paper, a biomechanical model is proposed to couple the mechanical and biological mechanisms governing invasive tumour development. As an example, this model is applied to investigate the spatio-temporal evolution of tissue stresses in an invasive tumour spheroid and its host tissue.

Underwater acoustic propagation is a complex phenomenon in the ocean environment. Traditional methods for calculating acoustic propagation loss rely on solving complex partial differential equations. Deep learning methods, leveraging their robust nonlinear approximation capabilities, can model various physical phenomena effectively, significantly reducing computation time and cost.
