We have studied the presence and frequency of micronuclei in exfoliated oral mucosa cells of full-term newborns and their association with maternal prenatal factors. We report an analytical, observational, cross-sectional, prospective study that includes 97 preterm infants (<37 weeks), 37 newborns from mothers with comorbidities, and 60 newborns from mothers without comorbidities, in a tertiary public hospital. Oral mucosa cells were collected within 24 h after birth.

Emerging evidence suggests cell exfoliation could be operating under the control of cell metabolism. Our study is aimed at exploring this.

Exfoliative cytology has proven to be a valuable diagnostic tool in the early detection of malignant neoplasms. However, its application in the oral cavity has been met with skepticism and limited investigation due to the perception that clinical examination alone is sufficient for early diagnosis. Nonetheless, recent research efforts have focused on the utility of exfoliative cytology in oral cavity neoplasms, motivated by the high mortality rate associated with oral cancer.

Erythroderma is a severe and heterogeneous inflammatory skin condition with little guidance on the approach to management in cases of unknown etiology. To guide therapeutic selection, we sought to create an immunophenotyping platform able to identify aberrant cell populations and cytokines in subtypes of erythroderma. We performed high-parameter flow cytometry on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and whole blood of a patient with refractory idiopathic erythroderma, erythrodermic patients with Sézary syndrome and pityriasis rubra pilaris, and healthy controls.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the most common neoplasm of the urinary system and ranks tenth in global cancer incidence. Due to its high recurrence rate and the need for continuous monitoring, it is the cancer with the highest cost per patient. Cystoscopy is the traditional method for its detection and surveillance; however, this is an invasive technique, while non-invasive methods, such as cytology, have a limited sensitivity.
