The impact of straw and biochar on carbon mineralization and the function of carbon cycle genes in paddy soil is important for soil nutrient management and the transformation of carbon pools. This research is based on a five-year field experiment with four treatments: no fertilizer application (CK); chemical fertilizer only (NPK); straw combined with chemical fertilizer (NPKS); and biochar combined with chemical fertilizer (NPKB). By integrating indoor mineralization culture with metagenomic approaches, we analyzed the response of organic carbon mineralization and carbon cycle genes in typical paddy soil from Guizhou Province, China, to different fertilization treatments.

Tissues form during development through mechanical compaction of their extracellular matrix (ECM) and shape morphing, processes that result in complex-shaped structures that contribute to tissue function. While observed in vivo, control over these processes in vitro to understand both tissue development and guide tissue formation has remained challenging. Here, we use combinations of mesenchymal stromal cell spheroids and hydrogel microparticles (microgels) with varied hydrolytic stability to fabricate programmable and dynamic granular composites that control compaction and tissue formation over time.

Introduction: Like many other academic medical centers, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) aspires to adopt learning health system (LHS) principles and practices more fully. Applying LHS principles establishes a culture where clinical and operational practices constantly generate questions and leverage information technology (IT) and methodological expertise to facilitate systematic evaluation of care delivery, health outcomes, and the effects of improvement initiatives. Despite the potential benefits, differences in priorities, timelines, and expectations spanning an academic medical center's clinical care, administrative operations, and research arms create barriers to adopting and implementing an LHS.

Impaired bladder compliance secondary to congenital or acquired bladder dysfunction can lead to irreversible kidney damage. This is managed with surgical augmentation utilizing intestinal tissue, which can cause stone formation, infections, and malignant transformation. Co-seeded bone marrow mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)/CD34+ hematopoietic stem cell (HSPC) scaffolds (PRS) have been successful in regenerating bladder tissue.

Background: Antigen 85B (Ag85B) is a signature antigen of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB). In this study, we aimed to investigate the impact of macrophages stimulated with Ag85B on bronchial epithelial cells and T cells, as well as the underlying mechanisms involved.

Methods: We used Ag85B to stimulate macrophage and investigated the impact of Ag85B on macrophage polarization.
