Article Abstract

A novel sphingolipid containing an iso-fatty acid, (4E,8E)-N-13'-methyltetradecanoyl-1-O-beta-D-glucopyra nosyl-4-sphingadiene, was isolated from the Oregon marine sponge Halichondria panicea and its structure determined using a combination of spectroscopic and chemical degradation techniques. A second galactosyl-ceramide, which contained an unusually long chain fatty acid amide component, was also isolated from H. panicea.

Electronic address:

As cold-blooded vertebrates, fish are sensitive to environmental changes. The outcome of pathogen infections in fish therefore is highly shaped by hypoxia. The epigenetic regulation of competitive endogenous RNA (ceRNA) bridging non-coding RNAs and mRNAs represents a promising mechanism modulating antibacterial response plus environmental stress.

Fish scale gelatin/diatom biosilica composite hemostasis sponge with ultrafast dispersing and in situ gelation for hemorrhage control.

Electronic address:

Rapid control of hemorrhage is vital in first-aid and surgery. As representative of emergency hemostatic materials, inorganic porous materials achieve rapid hemostasis through concentrating protein coagulation factors by water adsorption to accelerate the coagulation reaction process, however their efficacy is often limited by the insufficient contact of material with blood and the lack of blood clot strength. Herein, we report an ultrafast dispersing and in situ gelation sponge (SG/DB) based on anchoring interface effect for hemorrhage control using freeze drying method after mixing fish scale gel (SG) and tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) pre-crystallized diatom biosilica (DB).

National Center for Screening New Microbial Drugs, Institute of Medicinal Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing 100050, PR China. Electronic address:

Two cyclic octadepsipeptides, microascusins A and B (1 and 2), were identified from the marine sponge-associated Microascus croci IMB19-064 co-cultivated with Escherichia coli. Their structures and conformations in solution were determined by comprehensive spectroscopic data analysis. The absolute configurations of amino and hydroxy acids were determined by the advanced Marfey's and O-Marfey's methods, respectively, as well as chiral-phase HPLC analysis.
