Egyptian rousette bats (ERBs) are implicated as reservoir hosts for Marburg virus (MARV), but natural mechanisms involved in maintenance of MARV in ERB populations remain undefined. A number of hematophagous ectoparasites, including fleas, parasitize bats. Subcutaneous (SC) inoculation of ERBs with MARV consistently results in viremia, suggesting that infectious MARV could be ingested by blood-sucking ectoparasites during feeding.

Background: Poliovirus is a highly infectious enterovirus (EV) that primarily affects children and can lead to lifelong paralysis or even death. Vaccine-derived polioviruses (VDPVs) are a great threat since they are derived from the attenuated virus in the Oral Poliovirus Vaccine (OPV) and can mutate to a more virulent form. The purpose of this study was to identify VDPV serotype 2 through the year 2020-2021 via surveillance of sewage samples collected from different localities and governorates in Egypt and stool specimens from Acute Flaccid Paralysis (AFP) cases.

Background: Acute flaccid myelitis (AFM) is a rare debilitating poliomyelitis-like illness characterized by the sudden onset of flaccid palsy in the extremities. The purpose of this study was to report the mid-term clinical course of knee extension in AFM and the effect of contralateral obturator nerve-to-femoral nerve transfer (CONFNT) for restoration of knee extension in AFM.
Methods: Twenty-six patients with lower extremity palsy due to AFM were referred to our clinic for possible surgical reconstruction.

The hexavalent vaccines DT3aP-HBV-IPV/Hib and DT2aP-HBV-IPV-Hib are routinely used for primary immunization of infants against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B virus, poliomyelitis, and type b. A recent publication showed that after primary immunization with these vaccines, the odds ratios of adverse reactions (ARs) were significantly lower for DT3aP-HBV-IPV/Hib than for DT2aP-HBV-IPV-Hib. Our aim is to understand the impact of the various reactogenicity profiles at country level by comparing the ARs induced by one dose of DT3aP-HBV-IPV/Hib versus DT2aP-HBV-IPV-Hib in the primary infant immunization course.
