Background: Foreign language syndrome is a rare neuropsychiatric phenomenon typically following general anesthesia. To date, foreign language syndrome has not been associated with neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) in the literature. This case aims to broaden the clinical understanding of NMS by presenting an atypical manifestation of foreign language syndrome and emphasizing the need for prompt recognition of such presentations for accurate diagnosis and management.

Article Synopsis
  • Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the loss of dopamine-producing cells, and current treatments are not definitive.
  • The study explored the potential of SVAK-12, a small molecule capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier, to improve cell viability and reduce neurotoxicity in various experimental settings, including in vitro, in vivo, and through molecular simulations.
  • Results showed that SVAK-12 increased levels of key neurotrophic factors and boosted dopamine expression, making it a promising candidate for treating neurological disorders despite limited impact on motor symptoms in live models.

In Alzheimer's disease (AD), the most common cause of dementia, females have higher prevalence and faster progression, but sex-specific molecular findings in AD are limited. Here, we comprehensively examined and validated 7,006 aptamers targeting 6,162 proteins in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) from 2,077 amyloid/tau positive cases and controls to identify sex-specific proteomic signatures of AD. In discovery (N=1,766), we identified 330 male-specific and 121 female-specific proteomic alternations in CSF (FDR <0.

Introduction: Baclofen is a γ -aminobutyric acid (GABA) agonist used to treat spasticity; however, it may be toxic at dosages above 200 mg. The psychological, nervous, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, and respiratory systems are all affected. This report represents a case with the rare respiratory complications brought on by baclofen toxicity: atelectasis and pneumomediastinum.

Glioblastoma multiforme is the most common malignant primary brain tumor in adults. Despite new treatments developed including immunomodulation using vaccines and cell therapies, mortality remains high due to the resistance mechanisms presented by these tumor cells and the function of the blood-brain barrier that prevents the entry of most drugs. In this context of searching for new glioblastoma therapies, the study of the existing drugs to treat neurological disorder is gaining great relevance.
