Background: Laparoscopic-assisted (LTAP) and ultrasound-guided (UTAP) transversus abdominis plane (TAP) blocks are widely used for postoperative analgesia in laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC), yet their comparative effectiveness remains unclear. The aim of this meta-analysis was to systematically evaluate and compare postoperative outcomes of LTAP and UTAP in LC.

Materials And Methodology: A comprehensive literature search of five electronic databases was conducted from the inception of the paper till 2 June 2024 following PRISMA guidelines.

Top-down architecture of magnetized micro-cilia and conductive micro-domes as fully bionic electronic skin for de-coupled multidimensional tactile perception.

Joint Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education, Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, University of Macau, Avenida da Universidade, Taipa, Macau 999078, China.

Article Synopsis
  • E-skin technology simulates human skin's sensory functions for applications in prosthetics and healthcare, but faces challenges in accurately mimicking stimuli responses.
  • A new concept called fully bionic E-skin (FBE-skin) integrates components like a magnetized micro-cilia array and flexible electrodes to replicate the structure and function of human skin, including mechanoreceptors.
  • FBE-skin can detect a wide range of forces and stimuli, improving interactions in various fields, from intelligent sensing to human-machine interfaces.

Respiratory dysfunction in degenerative cervical myelopathy: A systematic review.

J Clin Neurosci

February 2024

Division of Academic Neurosurgery, Department of Clinical Neurosciences, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK. Electronic address:

Introduction: Degenerative cervical myelopathy is a condition of symptomatic cervical spinal cord compression secondary to a range of degenerative spinal pathology. Respiratory symptoms such as shortness of breath are not uncommonly reported by people with DCM and respiratory dysfunction has been described in several DCM studies. The objective of this review was therefore to systematically synthesise the current evidence on the relationship between DCM and respiratory function.

It has been suggested that stochasticity acts in the formation of topographically ordered maps in the visual system through the opposing chemoaffinity and neural activity forces acting on the innervating nerve fibers being held in an unstable equilibrium. Evidence comes from the Islet2-EphA3 knock-in mouse, in which ∼50% of the retinal ganglion cells, distributed across the retina, acquire the EphA3 receptor, thus having an enhanced density of EphA which specifies retinotopic order along the rostrocaudal (RC) axis of the colliculus. Sampling EphA3 knock-in maps in heterozygotes at different positions along the mediolateral (ML) extent of the colliculus had found single 1D maps [as in wild types (WTs)], double maps (as in homozygous knock-ins) or both single and double maps.

Neurogenic Fever after Subarachnoid Hemorrhage in Animal Models: A Systematic Review.

Int J Mol Sci

July 2023

IRCCS Istituto delle Scienze Neurologiche di Bologna, Anesthesia and Neurointensive Care Unit, 40139 Bologna, Italy.

The observation of neurogenic fever resulting from subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in animal models is a useful tool for the interpretation of its pathophysiology in humans, which is still a major challenge in the management of neurocritical patients. This systematic review aims to identify the prognostic factors and pathophysiological elements that determine the onset of neurogenic fever and its severity in animal models. In addition, our study aims to analyze which pharmacological treatments are most effective.
