Modern medicine has recognized organ and tissue transplantation as one of the most outstanding and promising advances. However, the demand for tissues and organs to be transplanted far exceeds the available supply. Due to this growing need, the problems inherent to the transplantation process have been pointed out in recent years.

Revisiting the Formulation of Charged Defect in Solids.

Phys Rev Lett

February 2025

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Department of Physics, Applied Physics and Astronomy, Troy, New York 12180, USA.

Defect physics is at the heart of microelectronics. By keeping track of the reference energy in total energy calculations, we explicitly show that the "potential alignment" correction vanishes, and the classic Makov-Payne correction yields accurate results. From linear response theory, we further formulate an accurate expression for the quadrupole correction.

While landing on flowers, pollinating insects often have to deal with flower movement caused by wind. Here, we determined the landing performance of bumblebees on a moving artificial flower, and how they use their visual-motor system to control their landings. To do this, we built an experimental setup containing a physical model of a flower, moving sideways using sinusoidal kinematics at various oscillation frequencies (up to 0.

Co-evolution of pathogen-host interactions with vertical transmission can produce bistable outcomes.

J Theor Biol

February 2025

Department of Mathematics, Western University, 1151 Richmond Street, London, Ontario, Canada. Electronic address:

Vertical transmission is widely predicted to select for reduced virulence of pathogens. Recent theory cast doubt on this prediction by showing that the evolutionary response of the host to vertical transmission can lead to severe disease outcomes. That theory, however, takes a simplified view of host population dynamics by assuming pathogen-induced mortality alone inhibits host population growth.

A four-wheeled robot can stride through longitudinal trenches to adapt to terrain challenges and effectively reach the target position in unstructured space, thus achieving navigation in rough terrain. Establishing a trajectory planning method to plan four paths simultaneously is necessary. Firstly, a grid map is based on the longitudinal trench terrain.
