Thirty-eight hospitalized children, ages 5.7 to 11.11 years, diagnosed with schizophrenic disorder by DSM-III criteria, are characterized regarding age, sex, race, socioeconomic status, pre- and perinatal complications, electroencephalogram, intelligence quotient, and family history of major psychiatric disorder. Clinical course, including age at onset of general and psychotic psychiatric symptoms and initial diagnosis of schizophrenic disorder, presence of DSM-III symptoms, hospital course, and response to antipsychotics are reviewed.

The methodology of machine learning with multi-omics data has been widely adopted in the discriminative analyses of schizophrenia, but most of these studies ignored the cooperative interactions and topological attributes of multi-omics networks. In this study, we constructed three types of brain graphs (BGs), three types of gut graphs (GGs), and nine types of brain-gut combined graphs (BGCGs) for each individual. We proposed a novel methodology of multi-omics graph convolutional network (MO-GCN) with an attention mechanism to construct a classification model by integrating all BGCGs.

Olanzapine (OLZ) is widely used in the treatment of schizophrenia, and its metabolic side effects have garnered significant attention in recent years. Despite this, the specific side effects of OLZ and the underlying mechanisms remain inadequately understood. To address this gap, zebrafish (Danio rerio) were exposed to OLZ at concentrations of 35.

The neural extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulates in the form of perineuronal nets (PNNs), particularly around fast-spiking GABAergic interneurons in the cortex and hippocampus, but also around synapses and in association with the axon initial segments (AIS) and nodes of Ranvier. Increasing evidence highlights the role of Neurocan (Ncan), a brain-specific component of ECM, in the pathophysiology of neuropsychiatric disorders like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Ncan localizes at PNNs, perisynaptically, and at the nodes of Ranvier and the AIS, highlighting its potential role in regulating axonal excitability.

Background: Auditory verbal hallucinations (AVHs) in schizophrenia (SCZ) are linked to brain network abnormalities. Resting-state fMRI studies often assume stable networks during scans, yet dynamic changes related to AVHs are not well understood.
Methods: We analyzed resting-state fMRI data from 60 SCZ patients with persistent AVHs (p-AVHs), 39 SCZ patients without AVHs (n-AVHs), and 59 healthy controls (HCs), matched for demographics.
