Laboratory animal studies have reported the biliary excretion of chemicals following exposure. Nevertheless, feces are rarely used as a matrix in biomonitoring of chemical exposures. In this study, feces and urine from pet dogs and cats were analyzed for the presence of 45 plasticizers, 45 environmental phenols, and 31 pesticides.

Insecticide resistance is one of the most serious problems in contemporary agriculture and public health. Although recent studies revealed that insect gut symbionts contribute to resistance, the symbiont-mediated detoxification process remains unclear. Here we report the in vivo detoxification process of an organophosphorus insecticide, fenitrothion, in the bean bug Riptortus pedestris.

Carbon dots (CDs) have excellent application prospects in various fields such as fluorescent dyes, but expanding their application, especially in bioimaging and the detection of organic pollutants, is still a major research objective. In this study, fluorescent CDs were successfully synthesized via the hydrothermal method using Serratia marcescens KMR-3. The platform based on CDs-KMR3 exhibited excellent stability, good biocompatibility, and low biotoxicity, and can be effectively applied to the imaging of bacteria, fungi, plant cells, protozoa and mammalian cells, and can specifically stain the membranes of all tested cells.

p-Nitrophenol (p-NP) pollutants are widely present in soil and aquatic environments and can seriously impair the health of living beings. Hence, a rapid, sensitive, and selective method for p-NP detection is urgently needed.
