Unsymmetric triazine-based triglucoside detergents for membrane protein stability.

Chembiochem

January 2025

Hanyang University, Department of Bionano Engineering, 55 Hanyangdaehak-ro, 15588, Ansan, KOREA, REPUBLIC OF.

Membrane proteins play a crucial role in a variety of biological processes and are key targets for pharmaceutical development. Structural studies of membrane proteins provide molecular insights into the mechanisms of these processes and are essential for effective drug discovery. Historically, these studies have relied on solubilization of the target protein using detergents, but conventional detergents often fail to maintain the stability of challenging membrane proteins.

The development of innovative therapeutic strategies that combine multiple treatment modalities is essential for effective cancer therapy. In this study, we engineered berberine (BER)-loaded mesoporous polydopamine (MPDA) nanoparticles (BER-MPDA) to enhance anti-tumor efficacy through synergistic chemotherapy and photothermal therapy (PTT). The mesoporous structure of MPDA allowed for a high loading capacity of BER, a natural isoquinoline alkaloid with known anticancer properties.

To form nonspherical emulsion droplets, the interfacial tension driving droplet sphericity must be overcome. This can be achieved through interfacial particle jamming; however, careful control of particle coverage is required. In this work, we present a scalable novel batch process to form nonspherical particle-stabilized emulsions.

Bioadhesive supramolecular polymer/hyaluronic acid hydrogel with sustained release of zinc ions and dexamethasone for diabetic wound healing.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

The 8th Clinical Medical College, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Foshan Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Foshan 528000, Guangdong, PR China. Electronic address:

Diabetic patients often struggle with wound healing and are at higher risk of infections, necessitating the development of a stretchable, adhesive hydrogel dressing with antibacterial and angiogenesis-promoting properties. In this study, we synthesized a series of adhesive, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory hydrogels using free radical polymerization with materials including methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA), N-[tris(hydroxymethyl)methyl]acrylamide (THMA), and 3-(bis(pyridin-2-ylmethyl)amino)propyl methacrylate (DPAMA). By leveraging the strong affinity of zinc(II)-dipicolylamine coordination complexes for the phosphorylated groups in dexamethasone sodium phosphate (DMSP), Zn and DMSP were successfully incorporated into the hydrogel.

Novel methods were proposed for determining primaquine (PQN) in tablets by multiple-injection capillary zone electrophoresis (MI-CZE) and by short-end injection CZE (SEI-CZE), both with ultraviolet detection. The background electrolyte (BGE), consisting of 20 mmol/L of tris (hydroxymethyl) aminomethane and 30 mmol/L of hydrochloric acid at pH 2.0, was selected considering a comprehensive study involving the effective mobility versus pH curves of the analytes and BGE components.
