Background Different pathologies are encountered more often in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients, such as bacterial, fungal, viral infection, and neoplastic diseases. Recently, studies have shown that HIV-infected individuals have poorer oral health outcomes, worse dentition, and aggressive forms of periodontitis.
