Alzheimers Dement

Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC, USA.
Background: Specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPMs) promote inflammatory resolution and homeostasis and are thought to have specific reprogramming effects on hman microglia. Decreased SPM levels have been correlated with chronic neuroinflammation, late-stage Alzheimer's disease (AD) and neuropathology in humans, yet few studies have explored the cellular signatures of resolution. Amyloid is though to bind one target resolution receptor, ChemR23, leading to internalization.

Background: The brain is a potential target for aluminium toxicity as it induces oxidative stress, strategies, rich in polyphenolic compound, containing flavonoid and possessing antioxidant property, found in natural plant products, to attenuate aluminium-induced impairments could provide a potential therapeutic intervention and protection for aluminium neurotoxicity.
Method: Forty adult rats weighing between 160 - 165g was used. The rats were divided into four groups (n = 10).

Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna, Nigeria.
Background: Sleep deprivation leads to an increase in oxidative stress and activation of inflammatory response and both could increase the production and accumulation of toxic beta-amyloid in the hippocampus which is considered one of the molecular drivers of Alzheimer's pathogenesis and progression. Despite these findings, obtaining sleep is still challenging in our modern society that values work around the clock. Omega-3 fatty acids represents an active biological agent with vital antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that could protect memory in the face of insufficient sleep.

Purpose Of Review: This narrative review includes the latest clinical and preclinical evidence on fatty acid exposure and telomere length, a widely accepted hallmark of aging.
Recent Findings: A large body of literature focused on n-3 (omega-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs). Observational studies reported beneficial associations with telomere length for self-reported consumption of n-3 PUFA-rich foods; for estimated intake of n-3 PUFAs; and for n-3 PUFAs blood-based biomarkers in most (but not all) studies involving lipidomics, a promising tool in the field.

The main aim of this work was to study the chemical composition of eighteen ground coffees from different countries and continents with regard to the content of hazardous substances as radioactive elements (K, Ra, Ra, U, U and Cs), metals, including heavy metals, aluminum and some microelements (V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) as well as substances that have a positive effect on human health and well-being (polyphenols, proteins, fats and caffeine). The tests were carried out before and after the brewing process using the following techniques: gamma and beta spectrometry, a microwave-induced plasma optical emission spectrometer (MIP-OES), gravimetric method, UV-Vis spectrophotometry as well as thin-layer chromatography. The leaching percentage of certain elements/compounds in coffee infusions was also measured.
