Experimental objectives were to create a chronic inflammatory model to evaluate the effects of persistent immune activation on metabolism, inflammation, and productivity in lactating dairy cows. Twelve lactating Holstein cows (631 ± 16 kg BW; 124 ± 15 DIM) were enrolled in a study with 2 experimental periods (P); during P1 (5 d), cows were fed ad libitum and baseline data were obtained. At the initiation of P2 (7 d), cows were assigned to 1 of 2 treatments: 1) saline-infused and pair-fed (PF; 5 mL intravenously (IV) sterile saline on d 1, 3, and 5; n = 6) or 2) lipopolysaccharide infused and ad libitum-fed (LPS; 0.

This study examined the effects of surgical castration and lidocaine-plus-meloxicam treatment on growth, physiology, behaviors, and leukocyte heat shock protein 90 (HSP 90) gene expression in Hanwoo (Korean cattle) bulls. Twenty Hanwoo bulls (body weight 248.8 ± 28.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of a rumen-derived direct-fed microbial (DFM) product on performance, blood biomarkers, ruminal fermentation, and bacterial abundance in dairy cows during the transition period until 100 DIM. Fifty-six Holstein cows were enrolled in a randomized complete block design from -21 to 100 DIM. Cows were blocked based on expected calving date, parity, and previous lactation milk yield for multiparous or genetic merit for primiparous cows.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) remains the most common cause of mortality in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Several studies suggest that the Mediterranean diet reduces the risk of CVD due to its influence on endothelial function, inflammation, lipid profile, and blood pressure. Integrating metabolomic and proteomic analyses of CKD could provide insights into the pathways involved in uremia-induced CVD and those pathways modifiable by the Mediterranean diet.
