The hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG) is thought to orthogonalize inputs from the entorhinal cortex (pattern separation) and relay this information to the CA3 region. In turn, attractor dynamics in CA3 perform a pattern completion or error correction operation before sending its output to CA1. In a mouse model of congenital hypoplasia of the DG, a deficiency in the (Wls) gene, specifically in cells expressing , which targets neuronal progenitors, led to an almost total absence of dentate granule cells and modestly impaired performance in spatial tasks.

The presence of hypothermia among young infants in the emergency department may be a sign of serious or invasive bacterial infections, or invasive herpes simplex viral infection. However, hypothermia may also occur due to a variety of other infectious and noninfectious conditions or environmental exposure. In some settings, hypothermia may represent a protective, energy-conserving response to illness.

Peripheral neuropathy is a complication in systemic sclerosis that is occasionally encountered in clinical settings. The mechanisms underlying this condition remain unclear and treatment strategies have not yet been established, making management challenging. Here, we report a case of peripheral neuropathy associated with systemic sclerosis that was successfully treated with corticosteroid therapy despite the absence of conventional inflammatory findings on histopathology or blood tests.

Mid-trimester preterm premature rupture of membranes is a rare complication of pregnancy associated with significant maternal and fetal risks. The ensuing prolonged oligohydramnios can lead to fetal pulmonary hypoplasia. In addition, there is an increased risk of miscarriage, preterm birth, and chorioamnionitis, contributing to septic morbidity in the mother-baby dyad.
