Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the long-term impact of mild COVID-19 infection and COVID-19 vaccination on ovarian function in patients undergoing assisted reproductive technology (ART). Specifically, we assessed ovarian outcomes between 9 and 18 months post-infection and investigated the effects of COVID-19 vaccines (inactivated virus and adenovirus) on reproductive parameters.

Methods: The study included two objectives: (a) examining ovarian function in post-COVID-19 patients (9-18 months post-infection) compared to a control group and (b) comparing reproductive outcomes in vaccinated versus unvaccinated patients.

Inactivation of CaV1 and CaV2 channels.

J Gen Physiol

March 2025

Department of Physiology, University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA.

Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs) are highly expressed throughout numerous biological systems and play critical roles in synaptic transmission, cardiac excitation, and muscle contraction. To perform these various functions, VGCCs are highly regulated. Inactivation comprises a critical mechanism controlling the entry of Ca2+ through these channels and constitutes an important means to regulate cellular excitability, shape action potentials, control intracellular Ca2+ levels, and contribute to long-term potentiation and depression.

It has been well documented that cold is an enhancer of lipid metabolism in peripheral tissues, yet its effect on central nervous system lipid dynamics is underexplored. It is well recognized that cold acclimations enhance adipocyte functions, including white adipose tissue lipid lipolysis and beiging, and brown adipose tissue thermogenesis in mammals. However, it remains unclear whether and how lipid metabolism in the brain is also under the control of ambient temperature.

Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) are bioplastics produced by few bacteria as intracellular lipid inclusions under excess carbon source and nutrient-deprived conditions. These polymers are biodegradable and resemble petroleum-based plastics. The rising environmental concerns have increased the demand for PHA, but the low yield in wild-type bacterial strains limits large-scale production.
