Background: Chronic neuropathic pain is a major health problem that adversely affects people's physical and mental well-being, as well as their quality of life. Percutaneous peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) may offer a minimally invasive option earlier in the treatment continuum for adults with chronic neuropathic pain that is refractory to conventional medical management. We conducted a health technology assessment of PNS for adults with chronic neuropathic pain, which included an evaluation of effectiveness, safety, cost-effectiveness, the budget impact of publicly funding PNS, and patient preferences and values.

Gastrointestinal (GI) involvement in Lewy body diseases (LBDs) has been observed since the initial descriptions of patients by James Parkinson. Recent experimental and human observational studies raise the possibility that pathogenic alpha-synuclein (⍺-syn) might develop in the GI tract and subsequently spread to susceptible brain regions. The cellular and mechanistic origins of ⍺-syn propagation in disease are under intense investigation.

Kappa opioid receptors (KOR) expressed by peripheral pain-sensing neurons (nociceptors) are a promising target for development of effective and safer analgesics for inflammatory pain that are devoid of central nervous system adverse effects. Here we sought to delineate the signaling pathways that underlie peripheral KOR-mediated antinociception in adult male and female Sprague-Dawley rats. In an inflammatory model of pain, local intraplantar (i.

Introduction: To decrease diversion of unused opioids following the minimally invasive repair of pectus excavatum (MIRPE), we developed an opioid education monitoring and reclamation program. The aim was to evaluate outpatient opioid use and disposal following MIRPE.
Materials And Methods: A retrospective review was conducted at a single center among patients <19 ys who underwent MIRPE with intercostal nerve cryoablation.

Hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis with polyneuropathy (ATTRv-PN) is a neurodegenerative disease caused by mutations in the gene encoding transthyretin (TTR). Despite amyloid deposition being pathognomonic for diagnosis, this pathology in nervous tissues cannot fully account for nerve degeneration, implying additional pathophysiology for neurodegeneration, which, however, has not yet been fully elucidated. In this study, neuroinflammation in ATTRv-PN was investigated by examining nerve morphometry, the blood-nerve barrier, and macrophage infiltration in the sural nerves of ATTRv-PN patients and the sciatic nerves of a complementary mouse system, i.
