Introduction: Coagulopathy following traumatic injury impairs stable blood clot formation and exacerbates mortality from hemorrhage. Understanding how these alterations impact blood clot stability is critical to improving resuscitation. Furthermore, the incorporation of machine learning algorithms to assess clinical markers, coagulation assays and biochemical assays allows us to define the contributions of these factors to mortality.

Study Objectives: Concentrated albumin early in sepsis resuscitation remains largely unexplored. Objectives were to determine 1) feasibility of early intervention with concentrated albumin in emergency department (ED) patients with suspected infection and hypoperfusion and 2) whether early albumin therapy improves outcomes.

Methods: ED patients with suspected infection and hypoperfusion (systolic blood pressure [SBP]<90 mmHg or lactate ≥4.

Classifying Race in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest and Potential Disparities: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Circ Cardiovasc Qual Outcomes

January 2025

Division of Emergency Medical Services, Public Health - Seattle & King County, WA (J.S., J.L., M.P., C.D., J.B., S.G., P.K., T.R.).

Background: Although racial disparities have been described in resuscitation, little is known about potential bias in race classification of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study of adults treated by emergency medical services (EMS) for nontraumatic OHCA in King County, WA between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2021. We assessed agreement using κ and evaluated patterns of missingness between EMS-assessed race versus comprehensive race classification from hospital and death records.

Background: Trauma video review (TVR) is an evolving technology that can be used to measure technical and non-technical aspects of trauma care leading to meaningful improvements. Only 30% of centers currently use TVR, with non-users citing medicolegal concerns, staff discomfort with recording, and resource constraints as barriers to implementation. Multiple studies have shown established TVR programs are well-perceived by staff.
