Background: Trachoma is targeted by the World Health Organization (WHO) for elimination as a public health problem by 2030. Trachoma impact surveys using standardised methodology are recommended to monitor progress towards elimination and to determine eligibility for continued surgery, antibiotics, facial cleanliness, and environmental improvement (SAFE) interventions. From 2007 to 2015, four counties of Eastern Equatoria State, South Sudan, received three to five rounds of mass drug administration with antibiotics.

4D-printed programmable sample-/eluent-actuated solid-phase extraction device for trace metal analysis.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, National Chung Hsing University, Taichung City, 402202, Taiwan, ROC. Electronic address:

Background: To integrate valves, manifolds, and solid-phase extraction (SPE) columns into a compact device is technically difficult. Four-dimensional printing (4DP) technologies, employing stimuli-responsive materials in three-dimensional printing (3DP), are revolutionizing the fabrication, functionality, and applicability of stimuli-responsive analytical devices that can show time-dependent shape programming to enable more complex geometric designs and functions. However, 4D-printed stimuli-responsive actuators and valves utilized to control flowing streams in SPE applications remain rare.

Magnetic relaxation switch biosensor for detection of Vibrio parahaemolyticus based on photocleavable hydrogel.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

State Key Laboratory for Managing Biotic and Chemical Threats to the Quality and Safety of Agro-products, School of Material Science and Chemical Engineering, Ningbo University, Ningbo, 315211, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Foodborne pathogens, particularly Vibrio parahaemolyticus (VP) found in seafood, pose significant health risks, including abdominal pain, nausea, and even death. Rapid, accurate, and sensitive detection of these pathogens is crucial for food safety and public health. However, existing detection methods often require complex sample pretreatment, which limits their practical application.

Deep eutectic solution elution assisted ligand affinity assay: A useful tool for the active coumarins screening from Fructus cnidii.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Tianjin Key Laboratory on Technologies Enabling Development of Clinical Therapeutics and Diagnostics, School of Pharmacy, Tianjin Medical University, 300070, Tianjin, China. Electronic address:

Background: Many of the ligand affinity analyses are presented in water environment, and the hydrophilic solution such as methanol is used for dissociating the bound compounds. The obtained dissociation solution needs to be concentrated for improving the sensitivity of the assay. However, it is not good for the analysis of hydrophobic and volatile compounds such as coumarins.

Development of a portable SERS tool to evaluate the effectiveness of washing methods to remove pesticide residue from fruit surface.

Anal Chim Acta

January 2025

Department of Chemistry, State University of New York at Binghamton, Binghamton, NY, 13902, USA; Materials Engineering and Science Program, State University of New York at Binghamton, Binghamton, NY, 13902, USA. Electronic address:

Background: Pesticides are widely used in agriculture to control pests and enhance crop yields. However, post-harvest, there are growing concerns about the potential health risks posed by pesticide residues on produce surfaces. Analyzing these residues is challenging due to their typically low concentrations and the potential interference from the complex matrix of the produce's surface.
