A series of tripodal (three-arm) lysine-based peptides were designed and synthesized and their self-assembly properties in aqueous solution and antimicrobial activity were investigated. We compare the behaviors of homochiral tripodal peptides (KKY)K and a homologue containing the bulky aromatic fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) group Fmoc-(KKY)K, and heterochiral analogues containing k (d-Lys), (kkY)K and Fmoc-(kkY)K. The molecular conformation and self-assembly in aqueous solutions were probed using various spectroscopic techniques, along with small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM).

Structural and functional analysis of the lipoprotein chaperone LolA.

Lipoproteins are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of bacterial membranes. In Gram-negative bacteria, the localization of lipoprotein (Lol) system facilitates the transport of these proteins from the inner membrane to the outer membrane. In , an ε-proteobacterium, lipoprotein transport differs significantly from the canonical and well-studied system in , particularly due to the absence of LolB and the use of a LolF homodimer instead of the LolCE heterodimer.

Background: poses a significant public health threat. Phage-encoded antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have emerged as promising candidates in the battle against antibiotic-resistant .

Methods: Antimicrobial peptides from the endolysin of bacteriophage were designed from bacteriophage vB_AbaM_PhT2 and vB_AbaAut_ChT04.

A multi-branched fluorogenic probe for the rapid and specific detection of Gram-negative bacteria is reported. Three Gram-negative-targeting azido-modified polymyxins were clicked onto a trivalent scaffold functionalised with the environmental green-emitting fluorophore 7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazole. The probe allowed wash-free detection of target bacteria with increased sensitivity and lower limits of detection compared to monovalent probes.

This study investigates the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activities of fractions from the stem extract of Bauhinia pulchella Benth. The ethanolic extract was fractionated using column adsorption chromatography, resulting in a hexane fraction (J1) and a dichloromethane fraction (J2), both rich in terpenes and steroids. Characterization was performed using gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
