Estrogen significantly impacts women's health, and postmenopausal hypertension is a common issue characterized by blood pressure fluctuations. Current control strategies for this condition are limited in efficacy, necessitating further research into the underlying mechanisms. Although metabolomics has been applied to study various diseases, its use in understanding postmenopausal hypertension is scarce.

Introduction: The placenta produces corticotrophin releasing hormone (CRH), which rises exponentially in maternal plasma across pregnancy. CRH plays a functional role in fetal development, labor initiation, and the regulation of gestational length. We aimed to understand how maternal plasma CRH during pregnancy reflects placental physiology during parturition by characterizing placental transcriptomic signatures of maternal plasma CRH and comparing to transcriptomic signatures of gestational age at birth.

In Brief: PI3K-AKT signaling activates steroidogenesis by inducing estradiol and progesterone production, while MEK-ERK1/2 signaling regulates steroidogenesis by inhibiting estradiol and inducing progesterone production in granulosa cells (GCs). Both pathways are essential for glycolytic and mitochondrial metabolism in these cells.

Abstract: The PI3K-AKT and MEK-ERK1/2 signaling pathways are integral to fundamental cellular processes, such as proliferation, viability and differentiation.

Heat Treatment of Saliva to Reduce Infectious Disease Contamination Does Not Impact the Analysis of Melatonin by Radioimmunoassay.

Adelaide Research Assay Facility, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.

The determination of melatonin levels in saliva represents one of the key methods for assessing the timing of the central circadian clock in humans, both in research and clinical settings. Melatonin levels in saliva are typically determined in a laboratory setting by RIA or enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and the emergence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) presented a serious challenge to the routine, safe assessment of melatonin in saliva samples. However, SARS-CoV-2 present in biological fluids can be inactivated by exposure to temperatures of at least 55-60°C for 30 min and the aim of this study was to assess the validity of applying a pretreatment heating step to saliva samples being prepared for melatonin determination using the Novolytix Radioimmunoassay (RK-DSM2).

Gastrin is an important hormone involved in gastric acid secretion. Despite its importance, validated methods other than radioimmunoassay (RIA) to assess serum gastrin concentrations in horses are lacking. This study aims to determine the agreement between ELISA and RIA in quantifying equine serum gastrin concentrations.
