12/15-Lipoxygenase-Derived Electrophilic Lipid Modifications in Phagocytic Macrophages.

ACS Chem Biol

January 2025

Division of Physiological Chemistry and Metabolism, Faculty of Pharmacy, Keio University, 1-5-30 Shibakoen, Minato-ku, Tokyo 105-0011, Japan.

Macrophages remove apoptotic cells via phagocytosis, also known as efferocytosis, during inflammation to maintain tissue homeostasis. This process is accompanied by various metabolic changes in macrophages including the production of lipid metabolites by fatty acid oxygenases. Among these, highly reactive metabolites, called lipid-derived electrophiles (LDEs), modify cysteines and other nucleophilic amino acids in intracellular proteins.

Key Laboratory of South China Sea Fishery Resources Exploitation & Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, South China Sea Fisheries Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Fishery Sciences, Guangzhou, Guangdong 510300, China. Electronic address:

The small abalone (Haliotis diversicolor) is an economic shellfish cultured in the south coast of China. In recent years, the frequent occurrence of the disease has led to significant mortality in abalone farms. Deleted in malignant brain tumors 1 (DMBT1), a member of the scavenger receptor cysteine-rich (SRCR) protein family, plays an important role in host defense.

Efficient Hg(Ⅱ) removed by l-cysteine modified UiO-66 through chemical adsorption via a facile partial ligand replacement strategy.

J Colloid Interface Sci

January 2025

College of Environmental Science and Engineering, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou 225000 PR China; Jiangsu Collaborative Innovation Center for Solid Organic Waste Resource Utilization, Nanjing 210095 PR China; Institutes of Agricultural Science and Technology Development, Yangzhou 225127 Jiangsu, PR China.

In this work, UiO-66-l-cys with enhanced adsorption capacity for Hg(Ⅱ) in water was synthesized through a facile two-step partial ligand replacement strategy. The presence of the functional groups significantly enhanced the capacity of the material for Hg(Ⅱ). According to the Langmuir model, the maximum theoretical adsorption capacity was calculated to be 1321.

Globin X is a newly discovered member of the globin family, while its structure and function are not fully understood. In this study, we performed protein modelling studies using Alphafold3 and molecular dynamics simulations, which suggested that the protein adopts a typical globin fold, with the formation of a potential disulfide bond of Cys65 and Cys141. To elucidate the role of this unique disulfide in protein structure and stability, we constructed a double mutant of C65S/C141S by mutating the two cysteine residues to serine.

Endothelial STING-JAK1 interaction promotes tumor vasculature normalization and antitumor immunity.

J Clin Invest

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Cancer, Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, Guangzhou, China.

Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) agonists have been developed and tested in clinical trials for their antitumor activity. However, the specific cell population(s) responsible for such STING activation-induced antitumor immunity have not been completely understood. In this study, we demonstrated that endothelial STING expression was critical for STING agonist-induced antitumor activity.
