Objectives: Scabies infestation, caused by the mite, has recently emerged as a public health concern in Western nations, with increased incidence worldwide. In Bologna, Italy, local health authorities report a rise in scabies diagnoses, although detailed data are limited. This study aimed to analyse the temporal trends of scabies cases diagnosed at S.

Stimuli-responsive nanoscale drug delivery system for epilepsy theranostics.

Acta Biomater

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Neuropharmacology and Translational Medicine of Zhejiang Province, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences and School of Basic Medical Sciences, Huzhou Central Hospital, The Fifth School of Clinical Medicine of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, Hangzhou, China. Electronic address:

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease characterized by distinct pathological changes in the epileptogenic zone. Antiseizure drugs (ASDs) are widely used as the primary treatment for epilepsy. To improve the efficiency of ASDs medication, stimuli-responsive nanoscale drug delivery systems (nanoDDSs), triggered by either endogenous or exogenous factors, have been developed and been considered as a noninvasive and spatial-temporal approach to epilepsy theranostics.

Background: Antiretroviral treatment increases the risk of accumulation of resistance mutations that negatively impact the possibilities of future treatment. This study aimed to present the frequency of HIV-1 antiretroviral resistance mutations and the genetic diversity among children with virological failure in five pediatric care facilities in Benin.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out from November 20, 2020, to November 30, 2022, in children under 15 years of age who failed ongoing antiretroviral treatment at five facilities care in Benin (VL > 3log10 on two consecutive realizations three months apart).

Acne vulgaris (AV) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disorder that commonly lasts from adolescence to adulthood and has serious social and psychological consequences. Current treatments typically use antibacterial drugs, which contributes to the rise in antibacterial drug resistance. Spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic with anti-androgen effects, has been used off-label to treat acne by lowering sebum production.

In cardiovascular research, electromagnetic fields generated by Riga plates are utilized to study or manipulate blood flow dynamics, which is particularly crucial in developing treatments for conditions such as arterial plaque deposition and understanding blood behavior under varied flow conditions. This research predicts the flow patterns of blood enhanced with gold and maghemite nanoparticles (gold-maghemite/blood) in an electromagnetic microchannel influenced by Riga plates with a temperature gradient that decays exponentially, under sudden changes in pressure gradient. The flow modeling includes key physical influences like radiation heat emission and Darcy drag forces in porous media, with the flow mathematically represented through unsteady partial differential equations solved using the Laplace transform (LT) method.
