Background: Canine vector-borne diseases (VBDs) induce non-specific dysproteinemias, detectable by serum protein electrophoresis (SPE). VBDs have been reported to induce a monoclonal gammopathy pattern. Monoclonal gammopathies are commonly the result of paraprotein (M-protein) produced by an immunoglobulin-secreting neoplasm.

The objectives of this study are autoinflammatory syndromes which are usually characterized by repeated attacks of fever, especially in children. The presentation of these diseases, however, varies between entities and between patients of a particular syndrome. We report a 16-year-old female patient, who suffered from periodic erythema and myositis/fasciitis.

Background: Serum protein electrophoresis is a useful screening test in equine laboratory medicine. The method can provide valuable information about changes in the concentrations of albumin and alpha-, beta-, and gamma-globulins and thereby help characterize dysproteinemias in equine patients. Reference values for horses using agarose gel as a support medium have not been reported.

Cytokines play an important role in the pathogenesis of lymphomas via autocrine or paracrine mechanisms, or both. Here we determined the proportion of CD3-positive T lymphocytes containing various types of cytokines in enlarged lymph nodes. Lymph nodes were obtained from 16 patients with various lymphoproliferative disorders, including 3 cases with angioimmunoblastic lymphadenopathy with dysproteinemia (AILD), 3 cases with adult T cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL), 2 cases with T-cell nonspecific malignant lymphoma (T-ML), 3 cases with B-cell diffuse large malignant lymphoma (BDL), 3 cases with histiocytic necrotizing lymphadenitis (HNL), and 2 cases with non-specific lymphadenitis (NSL).

Immunoblastic lymphadenopathy (IBL)-like T-cell lymphoma is considered to belong to peripheral T-cell lymphoma. Its prognosis is grave and effective treatments have not been established. Recently, we gave oral cyclosporin A (CsA) to a patient with IBL-like T-cell lymphoma, and succeeded in achieving dramatic remission.
