In 2017, Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) published a Clinical Practice Guideline Update for the Diagnosis, Evaluation, Prevention, and Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease-Mineral and Bone Disorder (CKD-MBD). Since then, new lines of evidence have been published related to evaluating disordered mineral metabolism and bone quality and turnover, identifying and inhibiting vascular calcification, targeting vitamin D levels, and regulating parathyroid hormone. For an in-depth consideration of the new insights, in October 2023, KDIGO held a Controversies Conference on CKD-MBD: Progress and Knowledge Gaps Toward Personalizing Care.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and continues to have a significant impact in cancer-associated deaths worldwide. Investigating the complex roles of infiltrating immune subsets within the tumor microenvironment (TME) will enable a better understanding of disease progression and reveal novel therapeutic strategies for patients with breast cancer. The mammary-specific expression of polyomavirus middle T oncoprotein (MMTV-PyMT) was first established in 1992 by William Muller and is the most commonly used genetically engineered mouse model (GEMM) for breast cancer research.

Background: Circulating levels of the female hormone estrogen has been associated with the development of Parkinson's disease (PD), although the underlying mechanism remains unclear. Immune homeostasis mediated by peripheral regulatory T cells (Treg) is a crucial factor in PD. The aim of this study was to explore the effects of estrogen deficiency on neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in a rodent model of PD, with particular reference to Treg.

To what extent sildenafil, a selective inhibitor of the type-5 phosphodiesterase modulates systemic redox status and cerebrovascular function during acute exposure to hypoxia remains unknown. To address this, 12 healthy males (aged 24 ± 3 y) participated in a randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study involving exposure to both normoxia and acute (60 min) hypoxia (Fi = 0.14), followed by oral administration of 50 mg sildenafil and placebo (double-blinded).

Background: Androgenic anabolic steroids (AASs) are synthetic drugs structurally related to testosterone, with the ability to bind to androgen receptors. Their uncontrolled use by professional and recreational sportspeople is a widespread problem. AAS abuse is correlated with severe damage to the cardiovascular system, including changes in homeostasis and coagulation disorders.
