Improved survival rates of cancer patients have led to an increase in the incidence of metastatic disease of the bone. Normal load and minimal trauma may result in pathological fractures. The malignant diseases most commonly diagnosed were breast cancer, bronchial carcinoma and hypernephroma. The majority of the patients treated were female. The average interval observed between diagnosis of primary malignant disease and occurrence of the pathological fracture was 2.8 years. The purpose of the surgical procedure is to achieve immediate and lasting stability and ultimately to increase and restore the quality of life. Immediate postoperative mobilization and early functional treatment are an indispensable part of the management of pathologic fractures. If possible extensive bone destructions involving the risk of fracture should be stabilized prophylactically. Specific techniques of composite osteosyntheses of fractures in metastatic disease of the bone are presented.

Purposes: This study aimed to clarify the clinical outcomes of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) treatment in patients with urothelial carcinoma (UC) of the prostatic urethra.
Methods: Between August 2003 and January 2023, 428 patients with non-muscle-invasive UC received BCG treatment (Tokyo strain, 80 mg, ≥ 5 times) in our hospital; 39 had UC of the prostatic urethra. We evaluated the cumulative incidence of intravesical recurrence, progression (muscle-invasive bladder cancer [MIBC] or metastasis), and subsequent radical cystectomy after BCG treatment in patients with UC of the prostatic urethra.

Here, we performed the first comprehensive clinical, histologic, and molecular analyses of 8 SBLs to better understand their pathogenesis and prognosis. This cohort consisted of 5 boys and 3 girls, with ages ranging from birth to 9 years at diagnosis.

Aim: Manatū Hauora, the Ministry of Health of New Zealand (NZ), published minimum standards for molecular testing of colorectal cancers (CRCs) in June 2018. These included mismatch repair (MMR) testing at diagnosis and BRAFV600E mutation analysis on newly diagnosed stage IV CRCs. This study aimed to determine the proportion of patients with CRC in the South Island of NZ with metastatic deficient mismatch repair (dMMR) CRC, the proportion of metastatic CRCs and dMMR CRCs that have a BRAFV600E mutation, and audit testing for BRAF mutations and appropriate referral to genetics services.

Survival is poor for patients with metastatic cancer, and it is vital to examine new biomarkers that can improve patient prognostication and identify those who would benefit from more aggressive therapy. In metastatic prostate cancer, 2 new assays have become available: one that quantifies the number of cancer cells circulating in the peripheral blood, and the other a marker of the aggressiveness of the disease. It is critical to determine the magnitude of the effect of these biomarkers on the discrimination of a model-based risk score.
